Speckle Interferometry at the Observatorio Astronómico Nacional. I We present the results of speckle interferometric measurements of binarystars performed in November, 2008 with the 1 m telescope at theObservatorio Astronómico Nacional of Tonanzintla (Puebla,Mexico). The data include 175 position angle and separations measuredfor 163 systems. The measured angular separations range from 0.15" to4.00". The maximum magnitude of the brighter components is equal to9.32. The mean error in the separation measurement is 0.03" and in theposition angle is 1°. The majority of position angles weredetermined with the usual 180° ambiguity, and some of them werecorrected by comparison with observations performed by other observers.
| Speckle Interferometry of New and Problem HIPPARCOS Binaries The ESA Hipparcos satellite made measurements of over 12,000 doublestars and discovered 3406 new systems. In addition to these, 4706entries in the Hipparcos Catalogue correspond to double star solutionsthat did not provide the classical parameters of separation and positionangle (rho, theta) but were the so-called problem stars, flagged ``G,''``O,'' ``V,'' or ``X'' (field H59 of the main catalog). An additionalsubset of 6981 entries were treated as single objects but classified byHipparcos as ``suspected nonsingle'' (flag ``S'' in field H61), thusyielding a total of 11,687 ``problem stars.'' Of the many ground-basedtechniques for the study of double stars, probably the one with thegreatest potential for exploration of these new and problem Hipparcosbinaries is speckle interferometry. Results are presented from aninspection of 848 new and problem Hipparcos binaries, using botharchival and new speckle observations obtained with the USNO and CHARAspeckle cameras.
| ICCD speckle observations of binary stars. IV - Measurements during 1986-1988 from the Kitt Peak 4 M telescope One thousand five hundred and fifty measurements of 1006 binary starsystems observed mostly during 1986 through mid-1988 by means of speckleinterferometry with the KPNO 4-m telescope are presented. Twenty-onesystems are directly resolved for the first time, including newcomponents to the cool supergiant Alpha Her A and the Pleiades shellstar Pleione. A continuing survey of The Bright Star Catalogue yieldedeight new binaries from 293 bright stars observed. Corrections tospeckle measures from the GSU/CHARA ICCD speckle camera previouslypublished are presented and discussed.
| 2000 A UV imaging of a 6 deg diameter field around MU Aurigae UV imagery of a 6 deg diameter field centered on Mu Aurigae in thegalactic plane was obtained with the SCAP 2000 experiment dedicated toan UV sky survey. Photometric UV magnitudes at 2000 A are given here formore than 500 stars detected in the field. A star-counting method isapplied to give a fine description of the interstellar matterdistribution up to 1000 pc. The mean space density for B8-A3 stars isderived. Stars with an UV excess are detected and spectralreclassification of some single or binary stars is suggested.
