ADONIS observations of the HD 100546 circumstellar dust disk
We report in this letter the first resolved images of the circumstellardust disk around the Pre-Main-Sequence star HD 100546. Thesenear-infrared images were obtained in J and short K bands with theadaptive optics system ADONIS at the ESO observatory. A bright diskextending 2 arcsec (200 AU) far from the star and viewed with aninclination with respect to the line of sight around 50 degrees isrevealed by the observations. Using a simplified model of lightscattering, we find that the dust disk density peaks at a distance of 40AU from the star, and the FWHM of this dense ring is typically 20 AU.This type of disk is believed to be a denser precursor of betaPictoris-like main-sequence disks. The structure of the disk is comparedwith the best known example of the class of ``debris disks'', the disksurrounding beta Pictoris. based on observations collected on the ESO3.6m telescope at La Silla, proposal 63.H-0239}

A homogeneous catalog of new UBV and H-beta photometry of B- and A-type stars in and around the Scorpius-Centaurus OB association
B- and A-type stars in and near the Sco-Cen OB association areinvestigated with UBV and H-beta photometry to acquire data relevant tothe luminosity function of Sco-Cen. The measurements generally consistof two 10-s integrations of U, B, V, (W, N) filters, and theobservations are corrected iteratively for atmospheric extinction andinstrumental response. The data presented give the mean V magnitude,mean B-V, mean U-B, and the estimated uncertainties for these values.The catalog provides a homogeneous catalog of data for a large fieldwith stellar objects delineating membership to the association Sco-Cenand that affect the luminosity function of the aggregate.
